Our approach to weight management
Weight gain in men rarely has a single cause. Busy schedules, poor sleep, chronic stress, shifting hormones and long-term health conditions all play a role — and they often reinforce each other. Left unaddressed, excess weight can contribute to high blood pressure, raised cholesterol, pre-diabetes and a gradual erosion of energy and confidence that many men don’t connect to their weight at all.
Rather than simply prescribing medication, we take the time to understand the bigger picture. By combining medical assessment, personalised treatment, lifestyle advice and ongoing GP support, we help you lose weight safely while improving your long-term health.
More Than Weight Loss
Losing weight can improve much more than your appearance.
Many men notice improvements in:
- Energy levels
- Confidence and self-esteem
- Blood pressure
- Cholesterol
- Blood sugar
- Fitness and mobility
- Sleep quality
- Everyday wellbeing
Where appropriate, our doctors can also assess and manage many of the medical conditions associated with excess weight, providing joined-up care rather than simply prescribing medication.

Receive a treatment plan tailored to your health, lifestyle and goals.

Stay on track with regular GP reviews and long-term support.
Why Regular Doctor Reviews Matter
Weight management is about much more than taking medication.
Research shows that people are more likely to achieve and maintain weight loss when treatment is combined with ongoing support and sustainable behaviour change. As your weight changes, your health changes too, so regular GP reviews allow us to monitor your progress, optimise treatment and review your overall health.
Where clinically appropriate, repeat blood tests may be recommended to monitor improvements in areas such as cholesterol, blood sugar and other markers of metabolic health. Not everyone will need blood tests, but they can help guide your ongoing care.
Your Weight Loss Journey
First Month
Appetite often begins to reduce, portion sizes become easier to control and early weight loss usually begins.
0–3 Months
Many patients lose around 5–10% of their starting body weight while building healthier eating and exercise habits.
3–6 Months
Weight loss often continues as treatment is optimised and lifestyle changes become part of everyday life. Many men also notice improvements in energy, confidence and overall wellbeing.
Beyond 6 Months
The focus shifts towards maintaining your weight, improving long-term health and preventing weight regain through ongoing support and healthy habits.
How Our Weight Management Service Works
Step 1 – Initial GP Consultation: What happens?
- Comprehensive GP assessment
- Medical and lifestyle assessment
- Height and weight confirmation
- Blood tests where appropriate
Your first appointment is designed to understand your weight, your overall health and your goals.
We'll discuss your weight history, previous attempts at weight loss, current medications, medical conditions and your goals. We'll also assess lifestyle factors including nutrition, physical activity, sleep and alcohol intake, as these all play an important role in long-term success.
You'll be asked to confirm your height and weight during your video consultation. Where appropriate, we may also recommend blood tests before or during treatment to assess your general health, identify any underlying medical conditions and help guide your treatment plan.
Step 2 – Starting Treatment: What happens?
- Personalised treatment plan
- Injectable or oral prescription treatment where appropriate
- Advice on nutrition, exercise and managing side effects
If treatment is appropriate, your doctor will discuss the available prescription options and help you choose the treatment that's right for you. We'll explain how your treatment works, how doses are increased gradually, what results you can realistically expect and how to minimise common side effects. You'll also receive practical advice on nutrition, physical activity and healthy lifestyle habits to help you achieve the best possible results.
Your prescription will be sent to our dispensing pharmacy for delivery. If treatment is progressing well and you're not experiencing any significant problems, repeat prescriptions can usually be issued each month until your next scheduled GP review, when your progress, treatment and any dose adjustments will be reviewed.
Prescription medication is provided on a pay-as-you-go basis, with consultation fees charged separately.
Step 3 – Ongoing Doctor Reviews: What happens?
- Review at 3 months
- Review at 6 months
- Every 6 months thereafter
Regular reviews are an important part of successful long-term weight management.
At your 3-month review, your doctor will assess your weight loss progress, any side effects, your overall health and, where appropriate, review blood test results or recommend repeat blood tests. Together you'll decide whether your medication dose should be increased, maintained or adjusted, and agree your treatment plan until your next scheduled review. The same process is repeated at your 6-month review and every 6 months thereafter.
Additional appointments can be arranged whenever you need further advice or support.
Step 4 – Long-Term Weight Management: What happens?
- Maintain your results
- Long-term lifestyle support
- Ongoing GP care
Weight management is a long-term journey rather than a short-term programme.
Once you've reached your target weight, we'll help you develop a personalised plan to maintain your results. This may include continuing treatment, reducing your dose or stopping medication safely, depending on what's right for you.
If you continue treatment, repeat prescriptions can usually continue to be issued through our dispensing pharmacy between your scheduled GP reviews, provided treatment is progressing well and you're not experiencing any significant problems.
Our long-term aim is to help you maintain a healthier weight and lifestyle, with ongoing medical support whenever you need it.
Why Choose H3 Health?
Our approach is different. As a private GP clinic specialising in men's health, we believe medical weight management should involve more than prescribing medication. Our doctors continue to support your wider health throughout treatment, providing personalised care and regular reviews to help you achieve safe, sustainable results.
Private GP-Led Care
Every patient is seen by one of our doctors. Before anything is recommended, we’ll take a full medical history, understand your weight journey and get a clear picture of your lifestyle and goals. That conversation matters — it shapes everything that follows.
Personalised Treatment
No two patients are the same. If prescription medication is appropriate, we’ll discuss the available options openly: how they work, what results are realistic, what the side effects can be and what you’ll need to do alongside them to get the best outcome.
A Whole-Health Approach
Excess weight affects far more than the scales. We routinely assess blood pressure, cholesterol, blood sugar, cardiovascular risk, sleep and hormone health alongside weight — because improving your overall health is just as important as helping you lose weight.
Ongoing Medical Support
You’ll see a doctor at three months, six months, and every six months after that. Those appointments aren’t a formality — they’re where we review your progress, adjust treatment if needed and make sure the wider picture of your health is moving in the right direction.
