FEMALE MENOPAUSE – GET OFF THAT EMOTIONAL ROLLERCOASTER

The conversation is changing.

No longer are women afraid to talk about periods, the menopause, peri-menopause and the devastating effects it can have on their lives.

Hot flushes, mood swings and reduced libido. Symptoms women are now talking about in the coffee shops, on social channels and in the spa with a large Prosecco.

Even, God forbid, with their partners.

But still, the advice received and treatment provided can be patchy, misinformed and not seen as part of the ‘whole’ person.

A more tailored, specialised and rounded approach is required. Because every woman’s story is different and every woman affected differently.

Life can be a rollercoaster of brain-fog, tiredness, mood changes, hot flushes, low libido, night sweats, joint pain, vaginal dryness, skin/nail/hair problems, migraines, period problems.

A long shopping list of symptoms with emotions fluctuating wildly and day-to-day living sometimes extremely challenging.

But help is at hand. H3 Health offer specialist consultations for menopausal symptoms, led by our menopause expert Dr Verity Biggs and her team.

Listening and understanding. Devising treatment plans to alleviate symptoms. Smoothing out the bumpiest of rides.

WHAT’S GOING ON?

The menopause is when a woman’s periods stop, usually between the ages of 45 and 55. It’s a normal part of ageing and caused by levels of oestrogen and progesterone dropping.

Symptoms can appear many years before your period stops (Peri-menopause) and for many years after (Post-menopause).

The most effective way to treat menopausal symptoms is to replace the hormones that are falling. Through Hormone replacement therapy (HRT).
But there are also alternative non-hormonal remedies.

HRT. LIFE UNLEASHED.

HRT enables you to release life’s pause button. Symptoms resolve quicker and quality of life improves drastically. It adds cardiovascular, bone and brain protection, too.

Now, we know that sometimes HRT gets a bad press. But initial side effects are usually short-lived.

And scary headlines about significantly increasing the chances of breast cancer? The facts say otherwise. Only 4 extra cases per 1000 women over 5 years are found.

WHAT OUR PATIENTS SAY

“My two appointments with Dr Verity Biggs have been a real eye-opener into my personal health. As a fit, healthy woman just into my 50s, I had a few niggles – some straightforward, others more personal. Verity’s knowledge as an experienced GP & women’s health specialist, combined with her supportive & straightforward manner was excellent. Like many of my friends in the 45+ age bracket, I didn’t know that my symptoms were a) peri-menopausal & b) could be improved! Verity explained the options clearly, answered all my questions, organised my prescription extremely efficiently & I am exceptionally grateful for her advice & expertise. Highly recommend.”

“A few months ago I underwent a total hysterectomy. I had no follow up from the hospital and trying to get an appointment with my GP was very difficult and then met with limited and dated information. I hit the surgical menopause wall like a train crash and was left to pick up the pieces myself. After about 3wks I was a blubbering wreck and really didn’t know where to turn. This is where Dr Verity Biggs stepped in. The only words I can use to describe her is my ‘guardian angel’. She is compassionate, empathetic but most importantly extremely knowledgeable. Her approach is accessible and warming. I can truly say without her I do not feel I’d be getting myself back on track. The follow up has gone beyond any of my expectations and been thorough. I’d have absolutely no hesitations in recommending her to anyone who feels they maybe suffering either from peri menopause or menopausal symptoms.”

“It’s the first time I’ve felt listened to and understood. I’m so pleased I booked the appointment. Women’s health is not understood enough an my GP practice leaving me to do my own research and wondering what I’m going to do. So nice to have some support.

Thank you to Kathryn too for being so lovely and explaining the process from booking and beyond.”
